A Sleep Of Prisoners

By Christopher Fry

Dark and cold we may be, but this

Is no winter now. The frozen misery

Of centuries breaks, cracks, begins to move;

The thunder is the thunder of the floes,

The thaw, the flood, the upstart Spring.

Thank God our time is now when wrong

Comes up to face us everywhere,

Never to leave us till we take

The longest stride of soul we ever took.

Affairs are now soul size.

The enterprise

Is exploration into God.

Where are you making for? It takes

So many thousand years to wake,

But will you wake for pity's sake!

Thank-you Alwyn for sending this poem.

'The longest stride of soul we ever took'.. how long this stride into self-awareness, integrity and love can seem.. but what relief I feel that 'affairs are now soul size'.. before this I truly was asleep, denial can hold us prisoner no doubt...

  1. Hi Mary, thank you for posting this, it is beautiful! A while back you mentioned that you would like to collate poems written by those on the Divine Love Path and perhaps publish them. I have a growing desire to be a part of this and would like to offer my services to collate the poems which have been submitted and perhaps publish them on a new blog site which will be dedicated to poems of love and truth and perhaps short stories in the same vein. If you feel that this is something that would be of benefit to others feel free to get back to me or perhaps we might have a chance to catch up when you are back at the end of May? I look forward to hearing from you about this project.
    love
    Linda
